KARA
Kara (Hangul: 카라, Japanese: カラ, often stylized as KARA) is a South Korean pop girl group formed by DSP Media in 2007, started off as a quartet with members consisting of Park Gyuri, Han Seung-yeon, Kim Sung-hee, and Nicole Jung. The following year, Kim Sunghee departed the group due to parental pressure, and members Goo Hara and Kang Jiyoung were brought in. On January 16, 2014, Nicole Jung's contract with DSP Media as a member of KARA expired and she has decided not to renew her contract with DSP Media as a member of KARA, leaving the group. On January 15, it was announced that Kara's youngest member Jiyoung would leave Kara once her contract will expire in April 2014. Thus, starting after April, the team will reorganize with Gyuri, Seungyeon, and Hara as the center to carry on future schedules.
The group's name comes from the Greek word "chara" (χαρά, lit. "joy"), which they interpreted to mean "sweet melody".
