Rouge Bunny Rouge When Birds Are Singing Long-lasting Eye Shadows

The Rouge Bunny Rouge Logo

OK, here's something *crazy*.  I managed to leave these Rouge Bunny Rouge eye shadows untouched since May when I purchased them from one of my fave online stores Zuneta!  Every now and then I would open them and admire their beauty, but I couldn't swatch it or try it yet as I still had a lot of eye shadows in use.  The time has finally come. :)

Rouge Bunny Rouge is a high-end Russian brand of gorgeous cosmetics.  Currently, you'll be able to find them in stores in various parts of eastern Europe (visit their official website for exact locations), otherwise, Zuneta is the only other place you can purchase them.

So far I have been using their 'Eyes Wide Open: Brightening Liner Duo' which I got as a gift with purchase from Zuneta), I like and use this often.  I also have their 'As If It Were Summer Still... Bronzing Glow Powder' in the colour 'At Netherway Cove (#039)', which I may do a review on later (love the packaging of this item in particular!).  So far, I find their products to be of very high quality, easy to use and have gorgeous packaging.  Their naming of products and the stories behind them as well as the packaging are all very whimsical and imaginative.  This post will be about their 'When Birds Are Singing - Long Lasting Eye Shadows' (ain't that a mouthful!) in the colours:
  • 009 Gracious Arasari
  • 015 Abyssinian Catbird
  • 027 Solstice Halcyon
Each of the eye shadows in the 'When Birds Are Singing...' line are named after a type of bird.  Cute, huh? :)

As usual, I like to make a note of where products are made, and I note that the ones I've got: the liner duo is made in Germany, and the eye shadows and bronzing powder are made in Italy.  It just seems like a lot of exceptional eye shadow powders come from Italy (like my other faves Burberry sheer eye shadows and Becca eye colour powders).  Of course, it would be useful for me to know the exact factory they were made in, but I have no way of knowing from the packaging unfortunately.  I'm sure if you were a make up director of a make up brand then you would be familiar with such things!  Anyway, I'm fairly new to the cosmetics world and just your average consumer still learning about what I'm paying for and putting on my face!  Who knows?  Perhaps one day I'll discover that a cheaper brand of eye shadows is made by the same factory as a high end brand, and find a way to save money for the same quality! ;-)  [Hey, if you happen to have some insight, let me know below!]

Below are plenty of pics of the packaging for this particular line of eye shadows they have, which has the RBR logo and flowers and tiny fireworks.  All inspired by an 'enchanted garden'.  They are in a sleek, black lacquer compact with a mirror on the underside of the lid.  They have a snap lock/closure which stays secure.

The Formula and Texture
Very lightweight, soft and extremely finely milled that it is almost creamy to the touch and blends with utmost ease as if the wind had magically applied it on.  I know the product is exceptional when (even though it's a powder) I can easily just pat the shadow on with my finger like I would a cream and it would just adhere to the skin so easily and with excellent colour pay-off.  I would say it is on par with the Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows, the Becca Eye Colour Powders (for instance, the colour in 'Lame', which I love!), and something of a similar texture to the Ombres Perlees de Chanel eye shadow quint palette from the 2011 spring collection.  These are some of the few powder eye shadows of exceptional quality that I could easily apply with my fingers then just blend out the edges with a brush.  I love that!

Lasting Power
The brand states that it has "extended eight-hour wear that will stay perfect and look freshly applied all day".  I can vouch for that.

The Colour & Pigmentation
Brilliant.  The ever popular colour is the Abyssinian Catbird, which is loved for its uniqueness (I certainly don't have anything like it!) and phenomenal colour pigmentation.  If you literally, just do the slightest tap with your finger in the pan of this shade, you will see how much colour is picked up.  It's insane!
  • 009 Gracious Arasari: semi-matte nude taupe, with the barest whisper of pink.
  • 015 Abyssinian Catbird: metallic bronze with golden highlights.
  • 027 Solstice Halcyon: semi-matte mauve beige.

Swatch Comparisons with Other Brands
I've compared it with other brands I have that have a similar colour in the powder form, and overall, I would say that its hue is closest to the Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Rosewood (No.09) although the latter has more sheen in it and a tad lighter in colour.
Swatch comparisons L - R: Becca Lame, Becca Surah (from the Enigma Palette - Fall 2011 collection), Burberry RosewoodRouge Bunny Rouge Solstice HalcyonChanel Fauve (taken outdoors in natural light).

Overall, I highly recommend this brand (particularly the eye shadows) if you are into luxury brand that is indeed luxurious price, but matched equally by its luxurious quality.  I would say out of the three I own in this line, my order of preference would be the Abyssinian Catbird, followed by Solstice Halcyon then Gracious Arasari.  Initially, I didn't think Abyssinian Catbird would be something I would wear personally, especially in the day time, but depending on how you use it, it certainly can be!  I wore it to work comfortably. :-) (E.g., eye liner using a damp brush or just a little bit in the outer corner of the eye and along the eye crease for definition).  Just depends on how much you use and you can instantly build the colour for night or special occasions and further intensify by applying with a damp brush onto the lid.  Love this.  You best hop to it! ;-)

Hope this was helpful to you. x

Have you or will you try this brand?  What do you think?  Do share! ^_^
