I know what you are thinking, what is going on? This post doesn't look like a review. Well, Dell over at Dell on Movies decided to make a Girl Week blogathon and invited other bloggers to join him. This is not the first time he does something this cool, actually he does it a lot, but it's only the second time I take part. The rules are simple, it has to be about girls. It can be a review, a Top post or something similar.
As you can see from the title, I went with my Top 5 inspiring female characters. Some are just movie characters, some are book characters then brought to the screen, and some are real. Enough with the talking, I leave you with to the list.
5 - Marge Gunderson (Fargo)
Marge Gunderson is a cheerful and optimistic woman as well as a brilliant detective able to put together clues quicker than everybody else. She also tends to be the smartest person in the room. And she doesn't even allow her seven months pregnancy to stop her from solving a bizarre crime all by herself.
4 - Lisbeth Salander (Millennium Trilogy/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
Lisbeth Salander is a young woman who has been controlled and manipulated by others for her entire life. She is the survivor of a traumatic childhood, yet she doesn't see herself as a victim. Sure, she is highly introverted and asocial, but at least she doesn't care about what the others think about her. And she wonderfully represents the need for independence.
3 - Jackie Brown (Jackie Brown)
On the surface, Jackie Brown is a 44-year-old flight attendant who gets caught smuggling drugs and cuts a deal with the ATF to avoid jail time. But deep down, she is a strong, sexy and confident black woman who knows what she wants. She finds her own path in life and she shows it off in a brilliant way.
2 - Furiosa (Mad Max: Fury Road)
Although the film is named after a man, the main character is a woman, Furiosa. She is a strong and fierce woman/warrior looking for redemption that will stop at nothing to get what she wants. And she makes it, both obtaining and outstanding individual success and starting a revolution, saving other women from a fanatic society in the process.
1 - Erin Brockovich (Erin Brockovich)
Erin Brockovich is a single mom and paralegal who ends up taking down a corrupt California power company almost singlehandedly. She perfectly demonstrates that women can do anything they set their minds to, even in a field (and world) dominated by men. And the fact that she is a real person makes it even more gratifying.
