Phare Country.

There are rather a lot of phares in Brittany, or lighthouses to you and me. They have a certain elegance and are just one of the many things to enjoy in this region of France.
The area around the estuary of the River Odet contains long golden beaches and numerous forests, containing purple hued rhododendrons.

This is the town beach of Benodet, a lively tourist port, with many small boats and excursion cruisers.

Along the river heading towards Quimper, ancient chateaux can be glimpsed through the trees.

Across from Benodet is the small town of Sainte Marine. The perfect place for a spot of lunch or a walk along the coastal path.

About half an hours walk away from Sainte Marine was this long golden beach. The water seemed warmer than at home and crystal clear.

Yet another phare, plonked on the edge of the coast ; I would rather like to live in this one!

About half an hours drive away, the town of Auderne had a fabulous aquarium. We arrived in time for a bird display. My son got more than he bargained for when the egret landed on his hand.

We got to see lots of hippocamps or sea horses.

And fish, of course!

This last photo is one of my favourites. The walks along the Odet were stunning and these rhododendrons really made them special.

Many thanks for all the lovely comments on my last post. Sorry I didn't reply to them all, but wifi has been a little limited in the last couple of days.

Wishing everyone a lovely week ahead :)
