About the Scholarship/ and University
The Paris Institute of Political Studies or commonly referred to as Sciences Po is the primary institution of higher learning for the French political and administrative elite, and one of the most prestigious and selective European schools in the political sciences. It was founded in 1872 and it has been recognized as world’s third-best school for politics and international relations.
Sciences Po created the Emile-Boutmy scholarship, named after the founder of Sciences Po (1871), in order to welcome the very best international students from outside the European Union. The Emile-Boutmy scholarship is awarded to top students whose profile match the admissions of Sciences Po and individual course requirements.
Requirement
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be, first time applicants, from a non-European Union state, whose household does not file taxes within the European Union, and who have been admitted to the Undergraduate or Master’s programme.
Students who are not eligible are: (1) Swiss and Norwegian applicants, since they may be entitled o CROUS scholarships; (2) Candidates who have dual citizenship, including an EU citizenship; (3) Candidates from Quebec for master’s degree (since they may take advantage of sliding scale fees same as European applicants), but candidates from Quebec for bachelor’s degree are eligible; (4) Master’s level dual-degree candidates. Only applicants for the following dual degrees are eligible, and they are in Journalism Sciences Po/ Columbia University, Sciences Po/ Fudan University with the concentration Europe-Asia in Global Affairs (only applicants with Chinese nationality), and Sciences Po/ Peking University (only applicants with Chinese nationality); (5) PhD programme students (thesis); (6) Candidates for the 1 year Master’s programmes; (6) Bachelor dual degree candidates; (7) Exchange students.
The Emile-Boutmy scholarship may not be combined with other scholarship (Eiffel scholarship, AEFE scholarship, BGF …), unless otherwise decided by the jury. This scholarship is awarded based on merit and according to the type of profile sought for this programme. Social criteria are also taken into account. This scholarship is not automatically awarded, and the candidates must indicate their wish to apply directly in their online bachelor or master’s application form.
Awards/ Grants
The amount of grants that will be given to successful candidates is varied from 3,000 euro to 7,300 euro per year for undergraduate including 5,000 euro per year for living cost. The successful master candidates will be awarded from 5,000 to 10,000 euros per year for the two years of masters.
Application ProcessStudents must indicate that they are applying for the Emile-Boutmy scholarship in the “Financial information” section of their Sciences Po application. The applicants are recommended to take admission in the bachelor and master degree coursework at Sciences Po. The application deadline is divided into two parts, (1) 13 April 2020 for undergraduate programme and (2) 15 December 2019 for Master programme.
